Raw footage for the award-winning TV series The 90's. National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show in Atlanta. Shots of cameras and demonstration booths. 00:00 Footage of a television show, with inconsistent audio. 03:11 Shots of nighttime outdoor Atlanta, more problems with the audio. A phone rings and the videomaker answers it and talks on the phone. 04:55 Cuts to a woman speaking into a microphone to advertise the camcorder, how it is convenient for traveling, and comes with a timecode feature. The audio cuts in and out as she describes the different models and prices. The tape then turns to other broadcasting gadgets, and wanders around the NAB trade show, looking at interesting graphics and people. Salesmen detail the weight and use of different cameras. 23:27 Interview with Garrett Brown, inventor of the Steadycam, who shows us his new invention, a Steadycam for the small camcorder. He says he wanted to allow cameramen "to walk and run and be mobile." He demonstrates how to use it, and why it is a good option for the amateur. 27:15 Cuts to a woman who talks about problems with cameras, and a brand of camera that works in low light. After this there are more demonstrations, graphics and raw footage, and an interview with a Japanese man selling cameras. 42:25 Interview with Barry Rebo, who talks about HD technology. Rebo says they need a way to show the population what high definition really is, and once they are able to see it, they will be very enthusiastic. "There's a sense of maverick-ness, I guess, if you will, in the sense of what you can do with these cameras... the technology has a certain democracy to it." He talks about the cost, and though high definition is expensive, it is significantly less expensive than 35mm film. He lists different studios working with HD. "The film industry can be very chauvinistic." But, he doesn't think that digital will replace film for a while. He talks about Sony as a manufacturer. 50:14 Interview with David Niles, who also talks about HD: "It's bigger, better, heavier." "It's much more than improved picture," he says, and he thinks it will open up whole new markets. 53:30 More shots of graphics (such as picture in picture) and then footage from an elevator. Shot from high up outside of Atlanta, and then shot of a television news program, or possibly infomercial. 56:04 The tape cuts to a presentation about NAB by George H.W.
