This tape features a 1984 episode of "Time Out," a weekly sports program that is hosted by a number of Chicago area journalists and sportscasters. This week's commentators are Kenny McReynolds, a WBMX Sportscaster and Assistant Coach for DePaul University's Men's Basketball team, WIND reporter Fran Spielman, Steve Daley of the Chicago Tribune, and Gary Fencik, All-Pro Safety for the Chicago Bears. 00:00 Black, Station ID and sponsor intro. 01:34 Show intro and overview of this episode. 02:38 Opening conversation among the hosts, who discuss the recent Cubs trade with Cleveland, where they picked up Rick Sutcliffe, and their recent losing streak. The discussion moves to the White Sox, who are hoping to turn things around on their West coast road trip. They also discuss Fuzzy Zoeler's win over Greg Norman in the U.S. Open. The other recent news is that a Kentucky Derby and Belmont stakes winner suddenly died. 07:55 Cut to Bill Veeck, who speaks about betting and the hypocrisy that gambling is illegal, but we still do it all the time. He proposes legalization of betting in order to improve the game and to raise funds for education, rather than it supporting the bookies. 10:50 Cut back to hosts, who further discuss the issue of betting. They speak about the NBA draft, and the potential for the Bulls to draft Michael Jordan. This moves to a taped clip of an NBA scouting camp, and interviews with Bulls general manager, Jerry West; general manager of the Lakers; Stan Albeck, coach of the New Jersey Nets; and Mike Fratelo, coach of the Atlanta Hawks. Interviews with some of the hopefuls, as well. 17:20 Cut back to Bill Veeck at the bar, who interviews recent Cubs trade, Rick Sutcliffe. He talks about his time in Cleveland, and how he feels about coming to the Cubs. Spielman introduces and then hosts a taped clip of a husband and wife team who created a water ski course in their backyard.
